PVHM Event in Support of African American History Month-Benefit for DNAAAHM
Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (PST)
Each year, the President of the United States of America proclaims the National "theme" of African American History. For 2013, that theme is:
“At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality:
The Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington”
The Perris Valley Historical Museum (PVHM) is collaborating with the Dora Nelson African American Art & History Museum (DNAAAHM) on our local theme:
“Connecting to Your Community Strengthens Its Resources”
We invite you to join us in celebration on February 23 as we observe African American History Month 2013. PVHM is sponsoring this celebration to help DNAAAHM raise funds to restore their Museum building after a disastrous wind storm.
A delicious afternoon meal of real "soul food" will be provided by Chef Richard Taylor of The Gumbo Pot in San Diego, which will include traditional dishes from Louisiana and the American South. In addition, classic African American "Church Ladies" desserts will be featured!
The historical program for this event will share:
- A special collaborative exhibition at the Depot on loan From the Dora Nelson African American Art & History Museum & First Baptist Church
- The early History of the two oldest churches in our Perris community
- Plans for REGISTRY of original artifacts of the First African American Churches in Perris
- Induct two pastors into the “Nan Sanders Step Up & Be Counted Shoe Collection” for their contribution in the area of human relations and vision to preserve our history.
